The mount can be used to mount your smartphone and even your GPS. I found the mount convenient on my recent trip (which I am still own at the moment) to Texas. I lost the original mount that came with my Garmin unit and I was able to buy a mount from Radio Shack that was supposed to be "universal". I found that mount from Radio Shack to be unable and I was not able to securely position the GPS unit in the mount because of the charging port and cord getting in the way.
